Magazine Advert analysis

The name of the band on the magazine advert is chase and status they are a commercial/electronic dubstep band formed in 2003. The album on the magazine advert 'No More Idols' was the band's second album. The album was released on the 28th January 2011. The image Chase and Status portray is a very casual, there dedication and commitment to there music has made them be a huge success in the UK. There music style is extremely upbeat many instruments are used to create sophisticated sounds. Chase & Status became one of the biggest selling artists in the UK in 2011 selling over 1 million singles in the UK alone. Their album ‘No More Idols’ did not leave the top 40 for 35 weeks and has now achieved double platinum status.

The form of release was a CD, a CD deluxe version and a DVD. These forms of releases made Chase and Status more known as more of the public could recognise them. This gets them more money and more known so they can find shows to play at. But after they were signed by Roc Nation they were well known and every Drum and Bass nights wanted them to play for them.
The artwork is of a black and white photo of a bulldog. This symbolises Britain as they are a well known British band. Then the text is in a well known bold font and a bright coloured yellow. It is plain and simple. The record company they are signed by are Roc Nation. They are a well known company and have money. They help artists get further and better in the music world and at the moment it is hard to get found out about. www.chaseandstatus.co.uk

The audience that are drawn to Chase and Status’ music is huge, due to there as a massive seller in the album charts and much sought after live act, the cross section of people that embrace their music would be varied anyway due to positive critical acclaim and much radio support. This aside however, they gain an even bigger audience (and perhaps a more loyal one) by collaborating with different contemporary artists from varied genres such as Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah (both popular rap artists), The White Lies (Indie Rock) and Plan B (Pop/Funk). These collaborations mixed in with Chase & Status’ trademark Dubstep/D&B infused style of dance music, is so popular because it caters for all tastes of music, as well as giving it the hardcore/taboo edge that Chase & Status bring.

The images and colour and the advert represents the genre perfectly because the colours used are bright and eccentric which can attract an audience straight away. The layout is simple but is clear to read. We feel this is important when designing our magazine.

Digipak research Peter

Digipak Research - Addicted To Bass 2012

FRONT COVER : This Digipak cover is Addicted To Bass 2012, it is a CD that has 3 disks inside and the whole genre of the CD is dubstep. The front of the cover has the Ministry Of Sound logo on it in the background. Then on top of that there are black speakers with bright coloured paints bursting out of the middle of them. Your eyes are drawn into the colours of the bright paint. Underneath the speakers is the text of the album. The text is bold and bright. Your attention is taken to the writing. This is because the background is dark and the writing is lime green and white, so the word colours contrast against the background.

BACK COVER : The back cover has a dark background and again the words contrast against the dark coloured background. There are 3 colours, lime green, orange and pink. These colours are bright and viberant. On both sides there are the Ministry Of Sound logo in the corners. There also is the bar code and then company they are produced by.

What has been learnt from our Textual Analysis

Completing the textual analysis of analysing a music video has helped us all individually and as a group to fully know and understand what is needed in a music video and the reasons for specific conventions used in videos, depending on the genre of the music.

Genre dictates the feel and pace of a music video. Without it everything thing would look and sounds the same. For example if the genre of the video was gangster rap you would expect fast cars, women, jewellery in the music video. Fully knowing and understanding what your music genre is will help you to be specific in conducting your music video analysing conventions and codes used in the video.

Camera, editing and mise en scene are all extremely important things in the construction of a music video. Different camera shots to make the video interesting and pleasing to watch. Costume and props to help to create the video and in the way it is preserved by the audience. Editing is the most important in the creation of a music video. Insuring that it is cut to the beat to help show a story and the way the camera is held, positioned, the shots that are taken to help the video be successful.

Meaning Of The Original Video

Meaning Of The Original Video:

In my own opinion the meaning of the original video is a metaphorical fight of love. i personally believe that the fighting between the two martial arts characters is a representation of romantic conflict. One person represents the man in the relationship and the other the woman.

The fighting in my opinion represents an argument, and when the one person defeats the other it represents one of the two characters metaphorically winning the argument. at the end the last lyrics that Alex Clare says are: 'I'll be on my way' which in my opinion represents a relationship that lasted in arguments so it ends.

Analysis of Digipak Chase and Status

Front Cover - is very random but very distinctive. The background is a picture of a British Bulldog which has no relevance to the artist or the music at all but symbolises Britain.  The cover is in black and white, but there is a bright yellow, long, bold writing over the top which is really in your face. The colour of the writing delivers some kind of warning signs, so the listener will automatically know the album will be intense.

Back Cover - once again yellow can be associated with caution. Chase and status target audience are party people of the younger generation. So it could be some warning that this is hardcore loud and vibrant music. As chase and status are a dubstep group most of the songs are extremely bassy.

Our music video will be targeted towards a younger audience so therefore analysing chase and status' digipak allowed us to see how they used there text and to get a few ideas that we may use for example the colour scheming black background and yellow writing helps it stand out and creates a sophisticated image.

No More Idols is a whirlwind of an album, one that smashes together a hundred genres, from trance to grime, hip hop to indie rock, dubstep always keeping the listener on their toes. Songs shift between moods in a heartbeat, pulling the carpet out from under you. And the list of collaborations is both smart and prescient: they’ve teamed up with old pal Plan BTinie TempahDizzee RascalWhite LiesClare Maguireand Cee-Lo Green – artists that can pull in a vast audience in their own right.
But the real key to No More Idols is its sustained quality. The production, as you would expect, is massive, and the album is packed with memorable melodies, beats and raps. The album cover is extremely unique the use of colours and the way the dark background is enhanced by bright yellow coloured writing allows the CD digi pak cover to be more pleasing and interesting to the eye and reaching out to the bands target audience which is 16 - 25 year olds.

Digipak analysis

Front Cover = this cover is very eye catching as there is just a white background and the lettering is very bold. The colours are opposite so the lettering stands out much more. As this album is a compilation album there can be no one artist picture and so instead there is some sort of spike effect with the ministry of sound logo on it. What is also different about this album compared to many others is the fact that on the bottom we can see some of the artists that are featured of the artist.
Back Cover = Again the green writing on a white background makes this eye catching. It has the songs divided into two lists as two CD's come with this album. The font is similar to that used on the font cover. There is also the barcode which is always on the back of CD's.

Analysis of DigiPak

The digipak shows the front cover, the back cover and the CD design. The Digi-Pak is dark, a metal background has been used, this is to represent a modern feel to it, also the mesh background is used to represent a cage almost, this emplify an underground status, which is common of the Dubstep genre.

The Digi-Pak has been kept simplistic, it has the Ministry of Sound logo and the name of the album on the front. The same colours have been used throughout the Digi-Pak, black, silver and red. These three are the most commonly used colours. Black represents the darkness of the genre, for example the underground side of the genre. The silver is used as it stands out over the black and also further represents a cage. Red represents danger, which is another dark side of the genre. The CD is made for a variety of artists, therefore there is no representation in particular to represent one artist, this is why the cover is kept quite simplistic and broad.

In summary, the artwork and colours of the Digi-Pak emplify what the genre stands for. This consequently draws in the target audience that the Digi-Pak is aimed at. We are aiming to do this in the Digi-Pak we create.

Types of Music Video: Performance, Narrative & Concept

Performance, Narrative & Concept

Types of Music Video

Over the past 10 years, the development of music videos in the music industry has grown and changed hugely. Fresh ideas have encouraged artists these days to expand how they represent themselves in their music videos.

There are three main types of music video; performance, narrative and concept.

Performance

A performance video focuses on showing footage of the artist or band either in a casual environment, i.e. socialising with friends, or performing, live performance or staged performance. This style of video uses the band/artist/group throughout the production of the video as the main focus. The genre of music where performance videos are mainly used
 is indie and rock.

Concept

Concept videos are based around a single idea or concept. This unusual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in as there is a concept around the video.  A successful concept video will keep the audience entertained and constantly looking at what or who is on the screen. There is no specific genre or type of music to use concept videos, in fact a range of artists covering all genres have used concept based videos.

Narrative

A song with a narrative based music video the song includes a narrative story of the lyrics/ words being acted out in some way. This style relies on imagery to show or give an audience a story to follow and feel part of and some narrative videos include clips from films that the song has been featured in.

Maps Of Location

We have chosen the Windsor Skatepark as our Most used Location as it is a public walk way and a scary area too because of the underpass with bright lights shining down and also the graffiti on the walls. Also the time of day we filmed comes in to perspective. This is because we filmed at the early hours of the morning so it a little light but also gloomy and spooky. The Skatepark is where the main character meets the chaser and this is where the chase starts. We also are filming in Ward Royal. This is a location of grey flats. We have used these flats before in a short film we have done in the past. This is a good location as it is a perfect spot for a chase scene with stairs, ally ways and sharp corners.

Letter Of Consent

Letter Of Consent/Permission/Access

As we had to begin filming at Henry's house in the morning we had to ask permission from his parents.

We had to ask if we could get all of our characters and people in the team to get round to Henrys house at around in the 8 o'clock morning when it gets dark.

Henry's mum Alison wrote a letter to give us her permission to be able to film in the morning.

'Yes, it is fine for the boys to come and film at our house, there is no problem. The house is free for the boys any time as it goes towards their final grade'

It was imperative that we got permission from Henrys mum as the start of our music video is inside Henry's house.

Pop Genre

Pop Genre

A Genre has characteristic features that are known to and recognised by audiences. They can be different types of films and music. Pop videos are usually brightly coloured and expensive clothes are used. But in this pop video ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce, it is dark and black and white. This is to show the power the girls have, also in the whole video there are no males. There are close ups all the way through the video to show Beyonce’s emotion and power towards males and also upbeat emotions. There are extreme close ups to show the beauty of the woman and also long shots to show what the artist is wearing. They also often are dancing with other dancers and are in the middle to show they are the important person. They are all aimed at the teenage audience to get the most views and money but also their songs are written about teenage problems.

Purpose and Function in a video representing an artist

What is the purpose and function of the video in representing the artist?

‘Thanks for the Memories’ was a song by the American rock band Fall Out Boy. It was released March 27th 2007 as their second single from their fourth album called Infinity on High. The song was composed by singer and guitarist Patrick Stump and the lyrics were written by the player of the bass, Pete Wentz. The song was produced by Babyface for the album. Thanks for the Memories was a commercial success, it reached Number 11 in the top charts in the United States. The single reached the two-million sales mark week ending December 27th 2009 in the US. It became a song that was played all the time on the radio, at their concerts and in interviews.
Music videos are used to promote the artist by showing the audience what they can do and how they can promote themselves. This video is used to promote Fall Out Boy by showing what they can do when performing and also behind the scenes as they made their music video. The video is a performance video as it shows the band performing together but also it is a narrative as it shows a story through the video. Entertainment is used in the purpose of music videos too. This is because the artist would want it to be known as the better video, the more views the video would get so the more the artist becomes known. This video shows the culture and how the industry actually works as in how the monkeys control everything in the film set not allowing the band members to do what they want, which is essentially what music is all about, an art form to express. So nobody is in charge throughout the video.
This is the narrative of the music video as a story is told as the video goes on. Another purpose music videos are made is to make money for the artist and producers. As people watch the video and buy the songs they earn money, this is one of the reasons why celebrities make music videos.
The relationship between the lyrics and images promote the artist by telling us that this is ‘one night’ and they need to remember it. This is why the video is so random. But it shows us that the band doesn’t get what they want, they get controlled and are told what to do. The genre is Rock in the video. Fall Out Boy are known for their rock music. The rock genre is shown here stereotypically by making the video a performance one; this shows us the band performing as one and together. This video is contradictory; it doesn’t match the lyrics that are said. The location is a studio set run by monkeys which is a metaphor for the people that control the music video. Randomness is not really mixed together with Rock music videos but this is an occasion as Fall Out Boy are a group of men that want to change this and make Rock not as serious as it is. This is because they want their audience to be smiling and happy when listening to their music.
The biographical detail is shown of their life and how they want to live it, by having fun but it is shown that they are controlled. Towards the end of the music video, because they’re being controlled by the monkeys they decide to revolt and put themselves in a positions to control them. This is shown by all the band members smashing the stage up and the monkeys going mad because of it. This video has a comedy value to it but a lesson is taught if you think deeply into it. Tools are used to promote artists eg, in this video Fall Out Boy were dressed in the most stylish rock clothing at that time, they were using the most up to date Nokia phone and the location was used also to show where the band film.
In conclusion the purpose and function of this video in representing the artist was done by promoting them and showing that they don’t have control. This is a rock but also mainstream as it was played over the radio and broadcasted several times and are bold enough to confront this issue. This song made Fall Out Boys career bigger and made them more well known as it promoted them.

Texual Analysis

Textual Analysis of a music video

‘Flex’ was the third single from Dizzee Rascals third album called Maths + English. It reached number 23 on the UK singles charts and was released on the 19th November 2007. The genre of this music video is UK garage and grime. These genres are well known in the UK and there are lots of different artists around in this genre. The artist is Dizzee Rascal. He has been around for a while and is well known by the UK public. This music video is a Narrative and a Performance video. This is because it tells a story but Dizzee is performing in some parts too. In the video he falls asleep after sitting on the sofa with nothing to watch on TV. The video copies X Factor (a TV series of people wanting to sing) and changed it to ‘Flex Factor’.  Through the whole video the video censors the "X" logo of X-Factor, which was on the TV Dizzee was actually watching. The target audience for this music video would be teenagers. This is because Dizzee Rascal promotes his music to the younger audience and also his music is played on young people’s music channels. To specify my target audience, by teenagers I mean mainstream kids who dress in caps, baggy clothes and wear jewellery. Mostly the male gender of teenagers would listen to Dizzee as he could be called an idol for some young males.
The artist is represented as a well known, rich common rapper. You can see this as he is wearing props that big rappers wear. For example the hat sideways, the chain, the gold watch, earrings and also the ring. This shows that Dizzee has a lot of money and wants to show it off. He is wearing the conventional clothes rappers would style themselves in today, it shows that he also wants to be noticed. The genre can be recognized by the clothing of the artist, the background and the pace of the song. Also the location tends to be in a party or a club, usually an expensive location.  Also the costume of what the artist is wearing, are they recognized brands and clothing?  And expensive cars or houses are used. Dizzee has appealed this music video to the teenage audience as the lyrics are about teenagers and the video is shown from teenager’s point of view.
In this music video there are long shots and establishing shots, these are long shot duration to show the money and what’s involved. Close ups are also in the video to show the emotion of the artists face and the expensive jewelry and clothing of Dizzee. This can appeal to the audience by showing them a wider view of Dizzee’s style. The camerawork used in this music video are very stereotypical to the pop genre because it is fast paced, jumps to some of the beat and close ups of the artists are used to promote the artist. The editing in this music video does not illustrate the beat of the music. There are jump cuts and normal cuts to change the scene of the music video to not bore the audience. Fast editing is used throughout the video as it is a fast upbeat song and it tells you straight away about the artist, genre and the type. The Mise en Scene of the video worked well for example, the props used were thought well and were used to their extent. The location was perfect as it makes the whole video much more happier and fun throughout. The lighting is all put on Dizzee from the front and the sides, the background of the people dancing are darker than him so they are trying to promote him by making him look bigger and important. The colours are bright and vibrant to show they are having a good time and everyone is in a good mood.
Andrew Goodwin’s theory is a useful point in this video. The lyrics to visuals in the video do not match to what he is talking about. This means the video is a contradicting style of a music video. He promotes himself and demonstrates the genre characteristics by showing in the video that it’s all about him. The lighting is all pointing on Dizzee and the cameras are facing him. This shows it is a performance video.
The people dancing in the background of him are mostly all girls. This shows that he is appealing to the female gender and that he is wanted by them making himself popular. The mise en scene appeals to the target audience as they are all happy, popular and bright thing to connect with so it’s easy to appeal to the target audience which is teenagers.
In conclusion this is a stereotypical video for pop music. Dizzie Rascal has upped his career and made a better and bold music video that he’s spent more on. This has promoted him and also made him look bigger. This is a more mainstream song than his other songs. This is because the mainstream audience has more than any other audience so Dizzie will gain for money from this audience as more will hear his music.

Textual Analysis

Small Bump - Ed Sheeran

Edward Christopher Sheeran was born on the 17th February 1991 and is an English songwriter and producer. He was born in Halifax, and then moved to Framlingham. He learned to play guitar and starting writing songs at a young age. He began recording in 2005 and moved to London in 2008 to pursue a music career. In 2009, inspired by James Morrison, he played in 312 gigs. And in early 2011 he released his eighth independent extended play. Three months later, Ed was signed to Asylum Atlantic Records.

Ed broke through commercially in June 2011, when his debut single "The A Team" debuted at number three on the UK Singles Chart. Buoyed by the chart success of the singles "The A Team" and "Lego House", his debut album, has been certified quadruple platinum in the United Kingdom. In 2012, he won two BRIT Awards for Best British Solo Artist, and British Breakthrough of the Year, while "The A Team" also won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

The video opens with a few shots of some stereotypical things you would find in a hospital, there is a purpose for this; to make it clear to the audience that he is in a hospital right from the start of the video. It then cuts to a seating area, which is obviously the waiting room. The shot movement after the few shots at the very beginning is one slow fluent motion up and down a corridor, tracking the artist all the way whilst it goes up and down. The camera moves up the corridor closer to the artist to a close up and then slowly further away, until finally back to the artist to end with a close up, which is sticking to the rule of thirds.

The editing for this music video is unusual; the video starts with a series of cuts at the start to establish to the audience where the video is taking place, but it soon cuts to the main shot, which is kept throughout the rest of the video, which is the fluent shot with an extremely long shot duration which lasts throughout the video.

Special effects are used in the video, these consist of as the camera is going up and down the corridor you see people coming into the hospital with injuries or for other reasons but they fade away as if they were ghosts, this fade is to replicate the passing of time, and to still keep the focus and attention on the artist.

The clothing of the artist is kept basic, nothing stands out in particular, and no bright colours are used at all. The reasoning behind this is because the artist is not promoting his image and what he stands for, but instead his music. Also, because of the bland dress sense the audience is more focused on the artist’s performance and voice as they are not focusing on anything in particular going on in the video, which is another reason for the video being kept extremely basic. The clothing is stereotypical of that of a teenager; jeans, hoody, trainers. This is to show that the artist is young, or maybe to still leave the artist room for change when he progresses, as he is still a fairly new artist to the industry.

The type of video is a mixture of performance and concept. The concept is consequent of the fact that the artist is singing about a baby on it’s way, he is in a hospital waiting room which shows that the video has a concept there. However the video is also just focused on the artist the whole time, which also makes it evident that it is performance based.

The relationship between the lyrics and visuals is contradictory, nothing the artist says relates to the visuals.

The relationship between the music and visuals at the start for the first eight seconds is illustrative, after these eight seconds the rest of it is contradictory because of the long one shot duration which is used throughout the video.

Our Final Song - Alex Clare - Too Close Lyrics

You know I'm not one to break promises
I don't want to hurt you but I need to breathe
At the end of it all, you're still my best friend
But there's something inside that I need to release
Which way is right, which way is wrong
How do I say that I need to move on
You know we're headed separate ways

And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There's nothing I can really say
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I'll be on my way

You gave me more that I can return
Yet there's so much that you deserve
Nothing to say, nothing to do,
I've nothing to give
I must leave without you

You know we're headed separate ways

And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There's nothing I can really say
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I'll be on my way

So I'll be on my way

And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There's nothing that I can really say
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I'll be on my way

So I'll be on my way
So I'll be on my way

My Video Analysis By Calvin Morgan

Name of Video: The Motto – Drake ft Lil Wayne & Tyga

Introduction: I am analysing Drake’s song “The Motto” its falls under the hip hop genre. Drake is a Canadian artist. The song “The Motto” was a bonus track on Drake’s second album “Take Care”. The music video featuring Lil Wayne & Tyga was filmed in Northern California. The video was officially released on February 10th 2012; the track itself was a commercial success in the US selling over 2 million copies. The video is a performance based video with the typical genre conventions of a hip hop video,. The potential target audience for the video/song ranged from 12 year olds all the way up to 40 year olds. This track hit Number 1 in the US charts; this was Drake’s twelfth Number 1.

Main Body: I will now analyse “The Motto” video by using the four micro areas.
Camera, Editing, Sound & Mise en Scene, also Goodwins theory.
In any music video the four micro areas are extremely important components to a successful or not so successful music video.
The camera work in Drake’s video “The Motto” the camera is very much focused on each artist in great detail. As the video starts there is a low angle shot looking up at the artist Drake driving a car, the use of a low angle shot straight away suggests the superiority of the artist as he drives his convertible with the roof down and with one hand on the steering wheel showing a sense of swagger and style that the artist possesses. The use of close ups can also show the assets of the artist, the jewellery, watches and well recognised brands and clothing that is used enhances him as an artist and is a particular convention of hip hop videos. As it is a performance based video there is a lot of focus initially on Drake rapping, close ups and mid shots are used on the artist. The camera shots vary from longer shots to establish the exotic location picked for this video in Northern California to shorter shorts as each cut is successfully cut to the beat. This editing technique is extremely clear to see and can be used to engage the audience. The use of fast cuts makes the transition from each part of the video slower and helps to capture the audience’s attention.  There is also a distinct change in the lighting from light to dark and then back again, this is to show the life of each rapper from the morning to the evening then back to morning suggesting the they live a tough life that is relentless non-stop, this use of lighting enhances each rapper as the focus remains on them.
There is a strong link between the music and visuals, the music is parallel to the visuals the beat of the song is successfully cut in sync with the visuals of the video. The use of this editing technique helps to create continuity and attracts the target audience in terms of the video being visually satisfying and interesting to watch. This video also uses intertextual reference at the beginning of the video late rapper Mac Dre’s mother Wanda Salvatto makes an appearance in dedication of the rapper who sadly passed away on November 4th 2004.  Wanda is thanking Drake (Aubrey) for his support during this time.
Finally the genre characteristics used in this video are typical of the hip hop genre, the use of gold chains, expensive watches, big baseball jackets, snapbacks and finally expensive cars enhance the artists to make them look superior and although there are no women being portrayed in a voyeuristic way in the actual video there is constant reference to woman in the lyrics used for the song. This suggests that women are attracted to these artists through their sense of style & their wealth.
To Conclude
In conducting this textual analysis it is evident that camerawork, editing, sound and mise en scene all played a major part in this video. The constant camera focus being on each artist shows their superiority and importance during the video, uses of close ups to show their emotion. The editing being cut in sync of the beat to make the video visually satisfying and give it a rhythm. The obvious sound of the song, the beat and each rapper singing their lyrics help towards a successful song  & finally the mise en scene, the use of expensive props, the exotic location& what you see within the frame of each shot to define each artist as a success.
In Drakes video “The Motto” it is a typical hip hop music video that uses typical convention of this genre. The song was a success in the US hitting number 1 but also the UK making appearances on UK television music channels.  All three artists that feature in this video (Drake, Lil Wayne & Tyga) are International artists and so all three of them being on this song adds to the quality and helps to attract a wider range of people.  It is important when making a video to a song, you link it to the lyrics, make it visually satisfying but also use particular genre conventions and characteristics to help and this was all used in Drakes video “The Motto”.

After completing target audience we have all become aware of the age range that our music video should be meeting. We have thought very hard about props, locations, and the overall themes and story line in our music video to try and reach out and attract the ages of 15 - 25 years old. Adding a relationship with the element of a chase scene in our music video will keep the audiences attention. The props of a pregnancy test will reach out to young girls of our ages as it is a problem when growing up from a girl to a woman certain situations happen in your life and teenage pregnancy is one of them. Also the use of cigarettes to release tension and stress in our music video a large amount of people smoke or have tried smoking as a teenager so they can relate. The mugger is in tracksuit bottoms and is wearing a black hoodie. His hoodie is up to show and portray the image to the audience so they are immediately aware that something is going to happen. In conclusion the main points within our music video that would appeal to our target audience would be the following.

  • The stereotypical main character as a young teenage boy who acts in a way that people stereotype teenagers, walking off smoking, getting involved in violence etc.
  • The use of props, pregnancy test and cigarettes to show what a teenage boy would usually get up to.
  • The narrative is one that will reach out to our target audience as they will be able to relate to the story.
  • Cinematography we will be using many interesting shots, from different angles and shot durations. The editing will start off slow paced and then when the song drops the pace will increase and will sometimes be cut to beat.

We came to the conclusion that our target audience for our music video would be Teens and Adults from the ages of 12-18. We also concluded that when looking into demographics that dealt with specifically male and females, we worked out that we would have a 70% Male audience and a 30% Female audience. We chose these demographics because the people that listen to this particular type of music and genre, fall well within the commercial dubstep genre.

To back this up we researched into the demographics. Our findings were that the Male interest out weighs female interest 3 - 1. What this means is that our music video would apply to a wider male audience. With all this in mind we must consider and allow content which will address and connect with both genders. In order to achieve this we could involve female actress as well as male actors within the video itself. Also by involving people of different races. Target audience research is essential in the making of a successful music video. It was so important that we found out exactly what our target audience was and the ways we could reach out to them. The pictures below are the typical types of clothes trainers, and bits of technology used for our target audience age range 12 - 18 year olds.  We came to the conclusion that our target audience for our music video would be children to teens from the ages of 12- 18. We also concluded that when looking into demographics that dealt with specifically male and females, we worked out that we would have a 65% Male audience and a 35% Female audience. We chose these demographics because the people that listen to this particular type of music and genre, fall well within the commercial dubstep genre.
